On 2nd November 1998,Arogya Sandhan was organized at 2,R.K.Sarani,Eastern Park,Santoshpur,Kolkata 700075 and first rural health camp was organized at Khuderabad village in south 24 parganas on 14th January 1999.

             Every month camp was organized there and it was felt that patients attending camps did not have any option to report back and they had to wait for one month for next camp.

             On 2nd January 2000 a charitable dispensary was established at above referred address. Dr Amitava Chakraborty , child specialist and Vice-president of Arogya Sandhan started the dispensary and slowly many other doctors joined him. Meanwhile registration of the organization was done under society registration Act on 2nd August 1999. Members’ subscriptions & donations by well-wishers were the means of finance for above activities. It was carefully noticed that patients attending camps and dispensary were mostly avoiding pathological and other tests due to their poverty as well as exorbitant cost of the test and two cases of child deaths were reported where doctors prescribed and referred to government hospitals for urgent admission but could not be admitted due to lack of availability of beds. Arogya Sandhan in its Governing body and General body meetings discussed these problems of costly pathological & radiological test, scarcity of beds indoor treatment in government hospitals and adopted resolution to establish a child care hospital.On our appeal Pt.Ravi Shankar,world famous Sitar Maestro performed a Sitar recital at Nazrul Mancha on 21st December 2002 to raise fund for the proposed hospital.

             On 16th February,2003 in a meeting of advisory board members and medical superintendents and other hospital specialists at IMA Hall it was resolved that health problems of children are inherently related to their mothers, thus Arogya sandhan should establish CHILD & MOTHER CARE HOSPITAL instead of only child care hospital and Dr. Satadal Saha, MS, FRCS( London) volunteered and completed the project preparation.

             ASS has already established and successfully running the first phase of CHILD & MOTHER CARE HOSPITAL since 15th May 2005, at 67B, New Santoshpur Main Road, Kolkata-700075.

During this journey of 11 years Arogya Sandhan has :

• Organized 694 health camps,

• created awareness by resorting to various means such as camps,walks, placards,
  leaflets,banners, books, seminars

• established blood donors’ bank,

• adopted tribal village, school and theallasemic children for health care,

• organized relief camps during natural calamities

• established Senior Citizens Health club

Now ASS has purchased on 6th March 2009 a plot of land near Sonarpur & to complete the 100 bedded CHILD & MOTHER CARE HOSPITAL.
Further ASS also has promoted and established AROGYA SANDHAN CHARITABLE TRUST, registered on 6th November 2007, to protect & develop the lives of mentally challenged persons involving parents of mentally challenged children and other social activists committed to this cause.

Mission

Arogya Sandhan should involve itself in creating health awareness, in resorting to health preventive, curative and protective measures for all especially children, mothers, senior citizens and mentally challenged persons more particularly who are economically vulnerable sections of the society so that a healthy society is built up wherein nobody should die untreated, uncared.

Vision

• To promote social welfare through medical care and other life protective measures

• To arrange seminars, conferences, exhibitions, camps for creating health awareness

• To provide medical treatment and establish treatment and care centre for the helpless & poor people specially children, mothers, senior citizens and mentally challenged persons

• To extend emergency medical help to needy people of the society in general

• To collect medicines and build up a Medicine Bank for free distribution among the needy

• To encourage people for donation of blood, eyes and parts of the body and making necessary arrangement for appropriate use of the same

• To provide educational and other assistance to the poor and needy section of the society

• To promote education and culture for the betterment of the society

• To run home for orphans,Senior Citizens and mentally challenged persons

• To organize cultural programmes to enrich and develop the social and cultural heritage

• All Members will render voluntary social service towards the mission

• No prevalent unethical medical and non-medical practices in the parlance of healthcare will be followed/encouraged.

• Humanity, Charity, Services and Transparency will be appropriately blended
  and strictly followed at every step of a activity.

Pledge

The income and properties of this organisation whatsoever achieved/obtained shall be applied solely towards the promotion of the above objectives and no portion thereof shall be paid to or divided amongst any of the members by way of profits.
